Russell County AL E911 Deploys GeoConex NextGen Map Viewer and Zetron 911 Phone System

Feb 10 2015

February 10, 2015:  GeoConex® Corporation assisted Russell County E-911 with the replacement of their aging phone system with a Zetron MAX Call-Taking Next Generation 9-1-1 telecommunications system.  GeoConex® is an authorized dealer for Zetron mission-critical communications solutions.  Additionally, this project included the installation of GeoConex®’s Next Generation Map Viewer.

The relationship between GeoConex® and Russell County began several years ago when Russell County chose GeoConex® to provide an ESRI based GIS creation and manipulation program for their 911 digital map data. After evaluating several vendor’s products, Rod Powell, E-911 Director for Russell County, said they chose the GeoConex system because “it was easy to use yet powerful enough to produce the accurate, polished product we required.”

When the time came to replace the phone system, “GeoConex came back with both a competitive bid and a creative financing proposal” according to Director Rod Powell, who purchased two Zetron MAX CT controllers from the authorized resellers.  The Zetron MAX CT offers a full range of features and functionality including: intelligent user interface, automatic call recovery, low power consumption, high reliability and cost-effective scalability, digital end-to-end IP, and remote access and maintenance.

With the phone system upgrade, Russell County also installed GeoConex®’s Next Generation Viewer. Viewer is a data access and decision support solution for emergency response organizations, running standalone or integrated with your computer-aided dispatch software. GeoConex® Next Generation Viewer instantaneously displays the mapped location, with or without aerial photographs, along with other mission-critical information. This information can include details on callers, residents, utilities, and other geographic information system (GIS) entities such as fire-hydrant locations—even hazardous material and historical medical and event data. Using GeoConex® Next Generation Viewer, dispatchers are able to quickly and efficiently provide routing assistance and important landmark information to emergency response personnel. In addition, they can identify where a location lies in relation to the road or existing structure.
